Getting Around

Getting Around Town
Most fellow housing is in the heart of downtown Berkeley.  Shattuck Avenue is the “main drag,” with Martin Luther King Jr. Way running parallel to it and being a better driving thoroughfare. The downtown area is bordered by Dwight and Cedar. Addison Avenue (where the theatres and Gecko Manor are) intersects both Shattuck and MLK. The Gecko Apartments are across the street from the theatre , while the Dwight and Francisco apartments are located in the downtown area.

The routes to and from Addison and Harrison listed below are the most direct (IE, hardest to get lost) ones we know...but as you get more comfortable with the area, we encourage you to branch out and explore Berkeley’s beautiful neighborhoods between your apartment and your workspace.

This is a map of downtown Berkeley. The "A" is the Theatre.

Local Transportation

All things public transit related are best accessed at www.511.org and bart.gov

A/C Transit Passes and Clipper Cards
The East Bay mass transit system is called A/C Transit, and it costs $2.10 per ride, or $80 for a monthly pass. If you’re planning to use mass transit regularly, buying a monthly pass is the most cost-effective plan.

Clipper is a universal ticket for all Bay Area transit systems – you can carry multiple monthly passes on the same card, as well as high-value (read: discount) BART tickets. It’s great if you’re traveling through multiple transit systems regularly, but it’s also really useful, because you can link your clipper card to your credit card and set it to automatically purchase your AC Transit pass each month, or automatically pay your BART fare when you run low (never get stranded again!)

You purchase Clipper cards at drugstores like Walgreens (closest one: 2187 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley) or online at clippercard.com. To learn more about AC Transit visit actransit.org.
