Electrical Outages - A flashlight and batteries are provided for emergencies. Please locate them upon your arrival. Please use ONLY in the case of an emergency.

Gas Problems - Familiarize yourself with the location of the water heater, stove and furnace, and procedures for turning them off. We will not be able to help you if you cannot locate these things. 

Earthquakes and Fires - As the East Bay is located near several fault lines, it’s likely that you’ll experience a tremor or two during your time here. The most important part about staying safe is staying calm. If you feel an earthquake, go to an interior door frame and stand there – away from breakable windows and possible falling objects. Do NOT go outside during or immediately after a quake!  The real danger comes from broken gas lines, so do NOT light matches – and don’t be a hero! Call emergency services (911 or the number at left) if you see fires , broken gas lines, or people in need of assistance.  Establish a contact number outside California where you, your family members and friends can call to relay information about your safety. They might not be able to reach you directly.
